Varnish Contamination

Case Study - Varnish Contamination Operators of a large Hydraulic Shear noticed elevated temperatures TOPIC: Varnish Contamination ASSET: Large Hydraulic Shear DATE: May 24, 2016   Problem: Operators of a large Hydraulic Shear noticed elevated temperatures and a discoloration of the oil in their 10,000 litre hydraulic oil system. This prompted them to conduct oil analysis, and the lab results revealed an elevated varnish potential number of MPC 49. If left untreated, the operators were worried that varnish would eventually cause premature failure of the large Hydraulic Shear, requiring costly repairs and down-time.   Solution: To effectively mitigate the varnish contamination in the hydraulic oil, the plant decided to implement a 40lpm Varnish Removal System utilizing Granular Adsorbent Media and High Efficiency Beta>1000 Filter Elements to re-circulate the reservoir in a kidney-loop configuration, continuously removing impurities as the hydraulics of the Shear were actuated.   Results: The starting varnish content in the oil was MPC 49. After approximately 6 weeks of run-time, the varnish potential dropped significantly to MPC 9.   Conclusion: By implementing a Varnish Removal System...

BULK DIESEL FUEL FILTRATION AT FUEL DEPOT

Case Study - Bulk Diesel Fuel Filtration At Fuel Depot Diesel Fuel arriving in bulk loads via barge, rail, or tanker truck? Problem: Brand new #2 Diesel Fuel arriving in bulk loads via barge, rail, or tanker truck typically has high levels of particulate contamination. The problem of dirty diesel fuel is particularly noticeable in a market like Australia, where the fuel is handled multiple times before it reaches the point of end use. The newer generation of large diesel engines all have very tight tolerances in the fuel injectors, and with much tighter onboard fuel filters that will otherwise plug prematurely, it is increasingly important to pre-filter the bulk diesel fuel to meet or exceed stringent OEM fuel cleanliness specifications. In this Fuel Depot serving several large open pit mining operations, the #2 Diesel Fuel delivered by rail to their 5 million litre bulk tanks ranges can be as high as ISO 24/23/18. By contract, they must deliver fuel to their assets which...

Oil Quip Filtration & Purification – Article

OilQuip Filtration & Purification – Article BioKem Oil Services explains why they use ‘best of breed’ equipment andhow filtration equipment on the market today differs widely. BioKem Oil Services is a specialist oil purification service provider based in Queensland & WA. We have customers across Australia and have become the go-to company for resolving lubrication oil problems on turbines and compressors. When the company started, BioKem rented an Oil Filtration Systems (OFS) vacuum dehydrator for purification jobs. We found this equipment to be so effective that we worked with the Australian distributor, OilQuip, for our new machines. Chris Baker – Operations Manager, BioKem Oil Services OilQuip Filtration & Purification – Article The Oil Filtration Market OilQuip believe that Australia has three distinct ‘generations’ of filtration equipment in use. Gen 1 These are basic pump and filter units, possibly with a basic vacuum dehydration capability, no real-time information on oil cleanliness and pretty simplistic. Some of these units are manufactured in Australia and many are imported from India or...
